國際智障人士運動聯會 Virtus

國際智障人士運動聯會由一群荷蘭的運動專業人士於1986年成立，旨在推廣運動予智障人士參與，並於1989年在瑞典海訥桑德(Harnosand)舉辦第一屆智障人士世界運動會。國際智障人士運動聯會於1992年成為國際殘疾人奧委會(前身為國際協調委員會)的成員。

時至今日，國際智障人士運動聯會的會員已從14個國家增加至超過80個，每年多達15項體育賽事供智障人士參與，超過4500名運動員已成為註冊運動員以參加國際級賽事。通過會員的努力，現時全球共有30萬名智障人士可享受到運動所帶來的樂趣。

2019年10月19日，國際智障人士運動聯會在第五屆環球運動會閉幕禮上宣佈英文名字易名為Virtus: World Intellectual Impairment Sport。

Virtus: World Intellectual Impairment Sport (Virtus, previously known as INAS) was established in 1986 by professionals in the Netherlands who were involved in sport and wanted to promote the participation of athletes with intellectual disability. The 1st World Games for Athletes with an Intellectual Disability were held in Harnosand, Sweden in 1989. INAS became a member of the ICC – the International Coordinating Committee – which in 1992 became the International Paralympic Committee.

INAS’ original membership was just 14 nations which have steadily grown to more than 80 nations today. Today’s sport programme includes some 15 annual events, more than 4,500 athletes are registered to compete at an international level, whilst more than 300,000 people with an intellectual disability worldwide have the opportunity to enjoy sport through the work of our member organisations.

On 19th October 2019, at the closing ceremony of the 5th Global Games, INAS announced a substantial rebranding and will henceforth be known as Virtus: World Intellectual Impairment Sport.
